Midnight Solaris #2

In Midnight Solaris #2 I used the same three background colors to create a myriad of luminescent combinations. As I’ve mentioned in the past, I love the “controlled chaos” of working in watercolor and really enjoyed creating these dark but upbeat backgrounds to showcase a really unusual and intriguing shell. Stellaria Solaris, or the sun carrier shell as it is commonly called, is from Vietnam and a member of the Xenophoridae or carrier shell family. They are sand dwellers found in shallow waters but also in waters as deep as 1,400 feet.
